It’s that wonderful time again when we get to highlight the incredible work of our local non-profits through our VP Charitable Corner. If you’re new around here, let me catch you up real quick. Every quarter, our Vice President spearheads an initiative to support and uplift a non-profit that’s making waves in our community. We provide free goods and/or services to help these amazing organizations continue their important work, and it’s one of the most fulfilling things we do.
This quarter, we’re absolutely thrilled to announce that our VP Charitable Giveaway recipient is Housing Options for Students Today (HOST). Now, I know some of y’all might be asking, “What’s HOST?” Well, let me tell you about this game-changing organization that’s doing some truly incredible work right here in North Carolina.
HOST is a community-engaged strategy designed to address housing needs without resorting to costly emergency shelters or transitional housing programs. Instead, HOST matches students who need short-term housing with hosts who offer a safe, private, and affirming space in their homes. It’s a simple yet powerful idea that’s transforming lives, one student at a time.
As you may or may not know, the non-profit recipient is drawn completely at random. However, I can tell you exactly why HOST is so deserving. Housing instability is a significant issue for many students, affecting their ability to focus on their studies and ultimately succeed in their educational pursuits. By providing a stable and supportive environment, HOST is giving these students a fighting chance to achieve their dreams. And isn’t that what community is all about?
